Israel's New Prime Minister Still to Be Determined
The elections from Tuesday, February 10 in Israel came to an extremely close finish - so close that the Prime Minister of the new coalition government is still to be determined. President Shimon Peres is expected to appoint his choice this week to attempt to successfully form a coalition government - just a few months after Tzipi Livni was unable to put together a coalition following Ehud Olmert's resignation.
After Livni and the Kadima party secured 28 seats in the Knesset and Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud won 27 seats, Avigdor Lieberman and the Yisrael Beiteinu party took the next highest number at 15 - and subsequently became the most sought-after coalition prize in the ensuing negotiation match between Kadima and Likud.
Livni has reportedly accepted the great majority of Lieberman's conditions
for his party's role in a coalition, but at press time it remains unclear whether this will be enough to stave off Netanyahu's bid to secure the final nod from President Peres.
Let us continue to urgently pray for God's chosen appointments to the positions of influence and government in the nation of Israel.
Prayer focus from this week's Torah Scripture portion:
"Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens." -Ex. 18:21
