With the official resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on September 21, the leading Kadima party is now headed by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who has been appointed by President Shimon Peres to attempt to form a multi-party coalition under her leadership in Kadima.
If Livni is successful by the beginning of November, the country will remain under the guidance of the Kadima party with Livni as prime minister; if Livni cannot successfully form a coalition, general elections will ensue, slated for the beginning of 2009. Ehud Olmert will remain in his position in the interim until the new government is confirmed.
Besides Livni, front-runners in an upcoming general election would include opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu of the Likud party and Ehud Barak of Labor. With the impending Iranian threat upon the nation and the repeated talks of land concessions in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem, it is imperative that we pray for Israel's future.
