2009 Israeli Elections Drawing Near
With the Israeli elections only several days away on February 10 and the prime minister position to be filled, Benjamin Netanyahu and the Likud party appear to have a significant lead over the other major candidates, including Tzipi Livni (Kadima party), Ehud Barak (Labor), and Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beiteinu).
The elected leader of the next coalition government in Israel will assume the position on the heels of the recent inauguration of President Barack Obama in the U.S., and the 22-day “Operation Cast Lead” carried out after the aggression of Hamas against Israel from the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu, Livni, and Barak have all said that the country must take a hard stance against the continued fire from Hamas in Gaza, and during these days when the post-war situation is still dangerously uncertain at best, the elections take on a crucial level of importance for the future of Israel.
At this critical time for the nation of Israel and the for the future of democracy around the world, it is urgent that we lift up the upcoming elections and pray for the leadership of Israel, for God’s Kingdom to come.
“I will also make your officers peace, and your magistrates righteousness. Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.” (Is. 60:17b-18)
